the virus remains present in the high titer.’4 These findings further incriminate
the immune response of the host in the development of lesions in this disease.
Comparison with Human Disease
Some human diseases are caused by or have been suggested to be the
result of persistent viral infections. These include such conditions as infec-
tious hepatitis, subacute scierosing panencephalitis, kuru, Creutzfeld-Jakob
